Only two weeks in and everything is great

by Chris on Nov.21, 2006, under News, Politics

It’s only been a few weeks since the Democrats won the senate and house, and already it appears that the economy is better for it:

American paychecks are rising again at a pace not seen since the 1990s.

The pay increase amounts to 4 percent on average over the past 12 months, and it comes at a very helpful time for millions of households.

People saying that the economy was great before the election were derided as lackeys for ‘Faux News’ and other right of center organizations.  Guess now that the left has taken control it’s OK to report the way things actually are…

Shifting Politics

by Chris on Dec.30, 2005, under Politics

A few years ago, Warren sent me a link to a political compass. At the time, I was almost completely in the middle (1 point to the right, 1 point to libertarianism). I decided to take the quiz again today and I was surprised to see that I’ve moved further to the right and further towards libertarianism. I am now at (4,-4).

I took a much shorter quiz on the Libertarian Party’s website and got the following:

It makes sense. I’m finding myself move further and further away from a lot of the Republican party’s platform. I don’t know if this is a momentary shift in my political ideology or a more fundamental change in the way I view politics. We’ll see I guess.

He meant it

The Holy See has responded to recent criticism of the Pope’s statement on terrorism in the world. The Pope spoke about recent terror attacks against Spain, Britain, Turkey and Egypt. Notably absent from that list was Isreal, which is where the criticism came from. The response?

“It’s not always possible to immediately follow every attack against Israel with a public statement of condemnation,” a statement from the Vatican press office said Thursday night, “and (that is) for various reasons, among them the fact that the attacks against Israel sometimes were followed by immediate Israeli reactions not always compatible with the rules of international law.”

“It would thus be impossible to condemn the first (the terror strikes) and let the second (Israeli retaliation) pass in silence…”

Read the whole thing. I think this is sad. Murder (and the terror attacks against Isreal are murder) is wrong regardless of who did it or was victimized by it. This could be taken as an implicit admission that terror attacks against Isreal are fine since Isreal does bad things afterwards, while doing the same against Spain or Britain is wrong. That’s not exactly the message the Holy Roman Catholic Church should send out.
